Herbalife Global Nutrition Philosophy

At Herbalife, we believe so strongly in Balanced Nutrition that we’ve developed our Herbalife Global Nutrition Philosophy. Balanced Nutrition means getting the right amounts of key nutrients: Up to 30% of our daily calories from healthy fats, 40% from carbohydrates and 30% from proteins. When it comes to fats, it is important to eat less saturated fats and more Omega-3 fatty acids. And we can’t forget to consume 25 grams of fibre each day.

Herbalife Nutrition

"At Herbalife, we believe that balanced and personalised nutrition supports a healthy, active life. Eating the right foods, combined with supplements, and exercising regularly are key."

GLOBAL NUTRITION OVERVIEW
Today, there are more overweight or obese people in the world than ever before. Although in the previous 50,000 years, humans obtained a survival benefit from storing fat, changes in the human diet and lifestyle in the past 200 years have resulted in millions of people around the world suffering from obesity.

Studies show that hunter-gatherers used to eat about 800 different varieties of plants. But today, the average intake is only about three servings of fruits and vegetables per day, which doesn’t provide enough of the antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals that are essential for good health.

In addition, highly processed foods with refined starches, sugars, fats, salts and oils provide many calories per bite, but they often don’t contain the essential nutrients that are found in foods, such as fruits and vegetables.

At the same time, a highly sedentary lifestyle over the last 30 years has resulted in a global epidemic of obesity and chronic health issues. People urgently need solutions that emphasis a balanced diet and a healthy, active life.

Proper Nutrition For A Healthy Immune System

Your immune system is really your body's private army. It's your own personal group of  'soldiers' that protects you against foreign invaders - an army that's always enrolled for service, and called into duty when needed. Your immune system defends your health by identifying anything foreign - from virus bacteria to parasite - and then aiming to destroy it. And the immune system is very complex - involving multiple lines of defense in the form of proteins, cell, tissues and organs - in the fight against illness.

Eating well is vital to a healthy immune system. For one thing, if you a eat a healthy diet and take care of yourself, you're less likely to get sick - which reduces the need to call your immune system into action in the first place. Key components to that healthy diet are plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables, the right amount of healthy protein, and some probiotics - the so-called "good" bacteria that help support digestive health.

Colorful fruits and vegetables provide an abundance of phytonutrients - natural compounds that are found in all plant foods that help to promote health by serving as antioxidants. Inside the cells of our bodies, oxygen-requiring-or oxidation - processes occur every day as part of normal metabolism. Without oxygen, for example, we would't be able to extract energy from our food. But oxygen has a downside - just as it can cause iron to rust or a cut apple to turn brown, oxidation can cause damage to the body's cells and tissues if left unchecked. This oxidant stress can weaken the body's ability to flight illness. So having plenty of antioxidants around can help reduce this oxidative stress and, in turn, help to support immune function.

Since the antibodies are specialized proteins made by the white cells to protect you, you need adequate protein in the diet to ensure you'll be able to produce the antibodies that you need. Healthy lean proteins - in the form of fish, shellfish, poultry, lean meats, soy foods and low fat dairy products - provide the building blocks that your body needs to manufacture these important antibodies.

Keeping your digestive system health is also important in supporting immune function. Your digestive tract is home trillions of bacteria that have numerous function in promoting health. Some bacteria help you digest the fiber in your foods, others consume intestinal gas, and some produce vitamins, like vitamin K and vitamin B12. When your system is populated with these "good" bacteria that might enter your digestive tract. Foods that cultured of fermented - like yogurt, kimchi and fermented soybeans - are source of there friendly bacteria, and should be a regular part of a healthy diet.

Eating well really does pave the road to good health. And to help your body in the flight against foreign invaders, your immune system 'army' needs the best nutrition possible. So call in the troops!

How To Start A Healthy Active Life?

Global strategy on diet, physical activity and public health

Healthy diets and regular, adequate physical activity are major factors in the promotion and maintenance of good health throughout life.

Unhealthy diets and physical inactivity contribute to the rise in overweight and obesity which are a major public health challenge. "The World Health Organization (WHO) projects that by 2015, approximately 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 millions will be obese.

Accordingly to the WHO, "The fundamental cause of obesity and overweight is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended. Globally, there had been

  • An increased intake of energy-dense foods that are high in fat, salt and sugars but low in vitamins, minerals and other micro nutrients; and
  • A decrease in physical activity due to the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work, changing modes of transportation, and increasing urbanization.

Most countries throughout the world have adopted the WHO strategy into their national health policies.

How to maintain a healthy active life?

Eating right makes you feel good and its's important for reducing your risk to diseases like heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure and osteoporosis. To stay healthy, the "body needs the right vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

For good nutrition, it recommends the basics. Eat a healthy diet by choosing a variety of fruits and vegetables. Avoid fats, added sugars and salt. Eat in moderation.

What is lifestyle and exercise?

Exercise doesn't mean you have to join the gym, There are plenty of ways to gradually increase your levels of physical activity and integrate them into your life"

  • Keep hydrated by consuming at least 2 liters of water each day. Its is even more important to drink water before, during and after exercise. Even low-intensity exercise requires you to be well-hydrated.
  • Keep physically active with at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, at least five times each week. You can split each half-hour into three 10-minutes sessions. If 30 minutes are out of reach right now, start with what you can do and gradually build up.
  • Choose a form of exercise that will easily fit into your everyday routine: taking a brisk walk, playing sports with the kids, walking the kids to school instead of driving getting off the bus subway a stop earlier, using the stairs, etc. Have a garden? Get out there and wrestle with the weeds. All the digging, mowing and raking can provide a surprisingly good workout.
  • Choose activities that you can do with your family or with friends who will help you to stay motivated.
  • Rest and relaxation are essential. Stress can cause health problems, and some believe it can leave your body more prone to illness. Take time to relax by exercising, spending time with family or friends, or meditating. Aim to get at least seven hours of good-quality sleep each night to ensure you wake up feeling refreshed.
  • Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol provides "empty calories,"which offer no nutritional benefits.
  • Quit smoking

Hope the information sharing useful to help your family and you kick start a healthy active lifestyle.
