Eat For Your Age! 20s

To stay trim and healthy, you need specific nutrients as you hit your 20s, you're working hard for your money, making new friends, partying, travelling and perhaps even starting a family. Your life is one exciting roller-coaster ride.

With a long list of must-dos, healthy eating is often the last thing on your mind. However, to stay strong and healthy for the future, you need to start watching what you feed your body.

Include specific nutrients your body need at 20s:
  • Omega-3 Fats
Abundant in oily fish and nuts, Omega-3 fats help ease menstrual cramps and headaches; Research also suggest the fatty acids can boost your brain's serotonin level, combating mood swings and depression, which are prevalent in women in thier 20s. Eat.. a canned tuna or salmon mixed a bag of salad leaves for lunch.
  • Calcium
"Women in their 20s are still building bone mass, which requires plenty of calcium to achieve optimal growth and strength", says registered dietitian Jojo Ooi. So, getting sufficient calcium will prevent bones from getting weaker, lowering your risk of osteoporosis later in life. Eat.. a small pot of yogurt mixed with a sliced banana or mixed berries, twice daily.
  • Protein
Its main function is to build and repair cells and tissues, supporting muscle development at the same time. But protein also provides the energy needed to keep you going for longer, stabilizing your blood sugar so you stay alert and focused on your work. Eat.. one soft- or hard boiled egg with a slice of toast for breakfast. Remove the yolk if you're not a fan, and have two eggs whites instead.

Exclude from your daily eating habits at 20s:
  • Saturated Fats
While you can sweat off the occasional fried chicken, saturated fats do a lot of damage in a short period of time. Present in fatty beef, pork, butter and fried foods, they raise the cholesterol in your blood, increasing your risk of narrowed arteries. stroke and heart attack. They weaken your memory too!
